Kainji Lake National Park, established in 1979, is Nigeria's oldest national park and one of its largest protected areas. It spans over 5,340 square kilometers across Niger and Kwara States in the north-central region of the country. The park is divided into two main sectors: the Borgu Game Reserve and the Zugurma Game Reserve. The Borgu sector is more developed and frequently visited, offering better opportunities to spot wildlife such as elephants, lions, leopards, and various antelope species. The park is also home to Kainji Lake, a man-made lake created by the construction of the Kainji Dam on the Niger River. This vibrant ecosystem provides a habitat for numerous bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The park's diverse landscapes include savannah, woodland, and riverine environments, promising a rich experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Visitors can enjoy activities such as game drives, bird watching, and boat trips on the lake, all while immersing themselves in the park's serene beauty and abundant wildlife.
